MERLIN, Ore. (AP) — A San Francisco man who got stranded in the snowy wilderness with his family nearly two weeks ago was found dead Wednesday in a mountain creek, authorities said.

James Kim’s body was discovered in Oregon’s snowy Coast Range two days after his wife and two daughters were rescued from their car, stuck on a remote road. Kim had set out on foot Saturday seeking help for his family, stranded nearly a week off a road through the mountains.

Kim’s body was in Big Windy Creek near the Rogue River, where ground crews and helicopters had been searching for days.

His wife and two children were rescued Monday.

Lt. Gregg Hastings of the Oregon State Police said Kim’s body was found shortly after noon.

“Our thoughts and prayers have been with the family since day one,” Hastings said.

Searchers were emotional as they broke the news at temporary headquarters near the mountain road the Kim family took on Nov. 25 as they headed home from a holiday trip to the Pacific Northwest.

Kim had left clothing and other items that appeared arranged to guide searchers, officials said Wednesday. Clothing and bits of an Oregon map turned up Tuesday in a drainage in which search and rescue teams sought who had been missing since Saturday when he set out on foot to seek help for his family.
