R.I.P. chivalry – or, why I might not hold the door for you

In my past dealings with women, I’ve run across a few who’d become immobilized when I entered or exited a car or building without first granting them entry, as if they had been transformed into Venus de Milo. I was quickly and harshly reminded of my egregious offense and submitted my will to these fair maidens, who incidentally also demanded to be treated as equals all across the board and compensated thusly. Even though I carry the brand of ‘typical male’ as a badge of honor, I have no qualms about treating a lady as a lady. But it’s when you demand a courtesy, it’s no longer a courtesy.

chivalry: the medieval principles governing knighthood and knightly conduct – so please…don’t make me get medieval on your ass.
