Exploding Knitting Needle

Aug. 17 – There’s a new warning about the dangers of knitting. This after a Washington state woman’s knitting needle exploded.

The victim, Paula Lalish, says she was sitting in the passenger’s seat of the family car, knitting, when a loud bang forced her and her husband off the road.

After determining that the bang wasn’t the sound of gunfire or a car’s backfire, Lalish says she looked down, saw her finger swelling and a big hole in the needle.

Lalish says she’s going to get to the bottom of the mystery. “A fellow from one of the knit chat rooms contacted me, he’s also a bomb expert with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, and he wants to do a study on the needle.”

So far there is no real explanation for the explosion, but one theory centers on the buildup of too much static electricity.
