First of all, Borat is a very funny movie. The meat of the humor are the segments he does with real people who have to deal with his sexist, antisemetic buffoonery with a camera in their face. This cat gets credit for committing to the role. if you’re comfortable watching an extended scene of (possible spoiler whited out) obese nude nutsack in the face wrestling, then you’ll be ok. What kinda took me out of it was the plot attached to it. and seeing Tom Joyner’s Miss Dupree cast as a prostitute made me feel like more of it was staged than I would have thought. After I saw her I wondered about the authenticity of some of the other people who he encountered.
The marketing and success of this movie will ultimately be Borat’s downfall. Before I saw the movie I grew tired of seeing Sacha Baron Cohen in his Borat persona on various news outlets. Now that his shtick is out, there are far less members of the unsuspecting public for him to prey on and he’ll move on to getting his other character, Bruno, onto the big screen.
I can’t wait to see this movie. I’d have to see how many “real” people he was with. A good number of them tried to sue over the movie last month.
I can understand why, especially the New Yawkers.
