The number one song in the countdown on the radio tonight was Grillz, which firmly puts me in another generation. The one where we wore our jewelry on the outside, and our underwear on the inside.

“Smile for me daddy…wachew lookin at…lemme see your grill..let u see my what…ya ya grill ya ya ya gril…I got the whole top diamond and the bottom rows gold”
The bad thing about that whole chorus is I know it. Not only do I know it…I silently like the song. Is that a sign that I am moving closer to the pig sty? I had to inject myself with some Gang Starr last night and today just to remind me of how it used to be. Yeah I am still lusting after Premier…but anywho.
This generation of hip hop…the penitentary generation…thinks that wax is life and try to live it. Now don’t get me wrong…the bullshit in the streets is true…but why carry bullshit with you your whole life.
Oh yeah…we were the 4 finger ring, hollow rope, bambu earring generation. Look what we started.
Damn
We pulled some out of a young teenager’s mouth at church last sunday – she thought they were “cute” and her friends had them – all inspired by the video – after the entire group of youth leaders explained that it wasn’t cute, she shrugged and walked out the door. Somehow, I’m not sure she was convinced. *sigh*..heck, I have a problem wearing a retainer, much less a mouth full of random junk. Clearly, a whole new generation.
Aw, you aren’t that far removed. LOL Happy New Year.
While I am part of this generation I am 20 years old I would never buy gold and diamonds for my mouth. I’m used to not being able to afford a thing so I would much rather buy me a car than a grill.
my daughter loves this song and the video; I asked her did she find that attractive in a guy–she said yes–Lawd help me and the parents of other 13 yr old girls
