I saw two african american kids walking with a Romney/Ryan yard sign yesterday. We drove by them and I was the passenger – we gestured our disapproval. In that moment I was heartbroken. I surmised in that moment, by their swagger that they did something they thought was badass and they were proud of it. I will assume they were not Romney Ryan supporters, and they were probably 3 or 4 years from the legal voting age.
I’m not anywhere near fan of Romney/Ryan but I believe that the freedom expression is one thing that makes our country great. If they stole someone’s sign, that’s just plain wrong. and it will probably set off/reinforce negative opinions about everyone who looks like those kids.
I wish that I had the chance to explain it to them. That they could express themselves through more positive actions.
