The big local story this week is about Tolley Carr, a local anchor who was arrested on DWI charges after hitting and killing a pedestrian. Just about everyone I have talked to locally has been talking about this and everyone has an opinion. I met Tolley back in 99 when Janeen and I were guests on his WSSU radio show. So far I haven’t weighed in with an opinion except to say that I can’t imagine what that would be like, identifying with him, and not the victim, Casey Bokhoven, since I knew Tolley. The question of celebrity favoritism as he was released by the magistrate and there are a lot of passionate opinions that have been posted here.
It makes me question my judgement at times after having a tall Fosters at Outback, but I’ve never gotten behind the wheel while drunk or made it a habit to get drunk at bars.
I hope that lessons can be learned and healing can begin.
update from WXII news site:
Carr is charged with felony death by vehicle and felony serious injury by vehicle, along with driving while impaired, in a March 11 incident in which Casey Bokhoven, 26, was hit and killed.
According to police, Carr refused to take a breathalyzer test after the incident, and officers said they “detected a strong odor of alcohol” on Carr at the scene. A magistrate issued a search warrant for two vials of blood.
The first charge is a Class E offense with a maximum sentence of 47 months. The second charge is a Class F offense with a maximum sentence of 25 months.
It just shows how one bad decision can change your life and someone elses in seconds. This is a very sad situation and I feel bad for all involved. Maybe this will make others think before drinking and driving.
ditto that comment
is it true that he has attempted suicide?
MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GOES OUT TO BOTH FAMILIES. THIS IS TRUELY A NIGHTMARE FOR ALL CONCERNED. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT YOUR SOCIAL STANDING IS TODAY FOR A MISTAKE TO CHANGE MANY LIVES. PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL INVOLVED.
This is a tragic incident for all involved. I can’t even begin to comprehend what it would feel like to be in his shoes and the agony every minute of just wishing that he could relive that one moment in time when he decided to drive that vehicle while drunk. Sadly, there are so many who are doing the same thing, but continue to escape such a tragedy. I have to believe that God will use Tolley to reach others and that his testimony will one day save lives. My prayers are with all the families.
Tolly Carr is a wonderful person…just got into a very bad situation. My sympathy goes out to both families.
I only know Tolly from the morning news and he has really been an uplifting person for me. There were times I thought I could not make it through the day and his smile and mannerisms helped me so much. I pray that God will be with him and that this situation will soon be over for him.
Once again, my prayers to both families.
I am so impressed with Tolly’s acceptance of his actions. I can not begin to imagine what everyone related to that tragic ordeal must be feeling. I feel sad for all involved.
God bless you all. Remember, to be forgiven we must be able to forgive.
I am not at all pleased that Tolley is probably going to get out of prison in a few months. He made that television station look slack to have someone like Tolley working there and having an obvious drinking problem. I certainly hope he can get what is known as “creative punishment”. This is when the drunk driver involved has to stand on the corner of a major intersection wearing a sign that states”I am a drunk driver and killed someone”. He should also have to visit Casey’s grave EVERYDAY AND LEAVE FLOWERS ON IT, send Casey’s family $1000.00 a month on the EXACT day Casey died and never be able to work anywhere EXCEPT for busting rocks for the rest of his LIFE – Susan
