I got a problem w/ the name. they finally gave us one, but with a catch.
New Orleans, LA (AHN) – The Walt Disney Co. has announced that a new film is in the works featuring the company’s first ever black princess. The animated tale, titled “The Frog Princess,” includes music scored by Randy Newman, composer of Disney’s “Monsters Inc.,” “Cars,” “Bug’s Life” and both “Toy Story” movies.
Production has already begun on the film that is taking place in New Orleans and is scheduled for release in 2009.
Dick Cook, Walt Disney Studios Chairman, said, “The film’s New Orleans setting and strong princess character give the film lots of excitement and texture.”
It has also been announced that the film will be done with hand-drawn animation and not computerized features, which the company has used in recent years.
The new princess is set to be called Maddy and the film is written by John Musker and Ron Clements.
Yeh I just blogged about this over at Highbrid Nation, check it out if you get a chance. Anyway, it really is about time Disney gave little girls a black princess to look up to. Its long overdue. I also think its great that the film will take place in New Orleans. I’ll definately have to take my neice to the Frog Princess.
