When I was at Fayetteville State, I really wanted to be a Visual Art major. Being a realist and wanting to make a steady paycheck coming out of school, I majored in Computer Science and double minored in Math and Visual Art.

I dabbled back then in photography w/ my film Canon Sure Shot, so photography was a course that seemed like a piece of cake. We had some class work, and some darkroom work both of which I did well at, but the instructor also had a requirement that we write a story that tied together all of the photos we shot.

This made no sense to me. It had nothing to do with photography, and I refused to do it. It was the stupidest thing I’d ever heard.

For my refusal to do that part of the assignment, I got a D. I wanted to put a contract out on old dude. I had to take another class so that my GPA remained unblemished.

In retrospect over time I see that photography is more than just applied techniques. I wish I could take the class again knowing what I know now.

I’d hit one out of the park
